Masonic Mountain Men Official Site!
The MMM are recognized as “Ambassadors for Freemasonry.” This band of brothers have been called “a spectacular, professional, world class, masonic degree team which provides impeccable educational presentations and exemplifications of the first three masonic degrees in ancient craft masonry”. This team has traveled across the United States with over 14,000 masons witnessing their incredible work and hundreds more enjoying their educational and historic presentations of the mountain man era.
The MMM utilize a maximum of 24 active team members. All members have been elected from lodges all across the state and are required to be Past Masters for recommendation to membership. Several Past Grand Masters and District Deputy Grand Lecturers are members and usually one or more members are serving as a Grand Lodge Officer. Each mountain man has unique credentials including a specific pin and member number reflecting election to the team. This special MMM number is unique and retires with the member at death.
The MMM hold an annual rendezvous on the Saturday on or near the first full moon in February at the converse of Martin and Rocky Creeks between Lake Hatten and Lake Ivell on a high hill in Jones County, Mississippi where activities typically include tomahawk and knife throws, long rifle competitions, over the log musket shoots, frying pan toss, mountain man traders and other authentic rendezvous reenactment activities. After an enjoyable day of activities including a full meal typically of venison, chicken or whole hog with all the trimmings, the team confers an evening MM degree under the canopy of heaven by star and campfire light.
All MMM work is done in complete pre 1840 mountain man regalia with special attention to the masonic mountain men legacy. The mountain man era began with Brothers Lewis and Clark with the Great Expedition in 1804 and lasted a few short years until the last rendezvous along the Green River in Wyoming in 1840.
